Survey on Accessibility in the Zweckverband Nahverkehr Amberg-Sulzbach

With the amendment of the German Public Transport Act, an obligation to ensure accessibility for all areas of public transport until 1 January 2022 was introduced. In reaction to this requirement, the ZNAS association (Zweckverband Nahverkehr Amberg-Sulzbach) has conducted examinations regarding accessibility of all stations and stops in the area of operation.

PB Consult supported the ZNAS in the creation of an electronic survey form and organised the coverage of the approximately 1,300 stations and stops. The data was collected by trained testers using handheld devices. In addition to the requirements of the criteria catalogue, the GPS coordinates of each station or stop were recorded and its condition was documented using photos. The accurate recording of each station or stop allows for the import and visualisation of the processed and evaluated results in a geographical information system (GIS).

To ensure continued usability of this map for the client, access to a webbrowser-based map (ArcGIS online in this case) was provided. In addition to the collected data, photos of the individual stations and stops were also included. This provides the ZNAS with a quick overview of the distribution and the facilities of the stations and stops. The additional option of using filters enables fast identification of the stations and stops that require modifications to achieve accessibility.
