National Transport Model Greece (NTMG)
The key objective of the NTMG preparation is to develop a strategic macroscopic transport model covering the whole of Greece, including external zones. The model allows for assessing movements between the major cities, as the main traffic generators and attractors, but also traffic entering or leaving the country at key border locations and through the international ports or airports. The purpose of the NTMG is to be an effective planning tool that can support the analysis of existing and future traffic flows of passengers/freight by transport mode, on different networks, under different infrastructural, economic and payment conditions. The model will produce quantitative results allowing determination of alternative strategies, traffic conditions, social and environmental impacts. The model can be used as a platform for testing a variety of scenarios in the future, such as high or low growth in the economy. A key outcome of this model is to make available a robust tool that can be updated and used for answering ‘what if’ questions, as well as for undertaking stress and sensitivity testing.
